Caregiving May 12

I miss sharing with you and couldn’t wait until the end of the month for the next newsletter to remind you of this event.  Caring for People with Memory Loss – Events Calendar – School of Public Health – University of Minnesota. There are four speakers for the day that share incredible information.  I have attended the previous five conferences and have shared the links with you later.  To be honest I haven’t gotten much feedback from you, not that I look for that,  about this conference, whether someone attended or from the links  that I have share after the conference.  I don’t want to overload your mailbox or your calendar, so if you are interested please let me know what you think after the conference if you choose to attend, or view the links.

I have been doing a lot of reading from highly recommended books on grief.  It has been interesting.  When I was teaching, I would ask students why they need to check out three books or more at a time.  I had to do that in college, and have had no desire to return to that style.  Well, I’m reading three books now about grief.  There are no classes until Fall semester.

Grief has a major impact on pain.  I’ve been struggling for a year with pain in my neck, shoulder, and left arm, including numbness. Surgery and therapy helped, but a chiropractor with an agitato or activator gun (?) has helped tremendously.  I also learned from my reading that very cold water splashed on your face and gargle with cold water will activate the Vegas nerve, which is the main nerve to help with pain.  I shared this with my chiropractor and he agreed.  He ends each shower with cold water.  He lives on a lake nearby and enjoys the 40 degree spring and fall swims.  I rinse my hair now with cold water.  Wow! What a difference.  I have cut back on pain meds, and at night I don’t use any Bio-Freeze or Voltaren Cream any longer.

However, the cold water might be responsible for the 10-day cold I had, that has now returned after a week of pleasure breathing. I miss the sympathy and caring Luann offered.  Except when I asked her to do what my mom did for me as a kid.  She told me to go home to my mom.  I knew that wasn’t an option, so I stayed quiet.  🤐

I welcome your feedback, whether it’s positive or negative. You can reach me at the email address below.

I hope you find something helpful.
